Personally I know very few people who believe things based on NO evidence. On scant or questionable evidence: that is quite common. In fact: so common, I guess that such beliefs - beliefs based on the flimsiest of evidence - are far more common than are beliefs based on sound evidence that one has personally witnessed (by whatever means that sound evidence has been witnessed: e.g. seeing in person, reading a presumably reliable source, etc.). *** Think about all the things that you believe to be true but for which you have very little, very questionable evidence. There are probably dozens of such beliefs that come to mind IMMEDIATELY...if you think about it objectively.

When was the last time you tested what you see? Does a baby ask for proof before it suckles. Do you test the floor for solidity before you race off to the toilet each morning? We would say a lot of things are just obvious; that it's reasonable to make normal assumptions. My point is we don't normally go around asking for evidence. Would you ask children at school if they had evidence that they were not adopted. Evidence is only asked for when there is a dispute. To run an experiment you first need to set up a methods, establish assumptions and many more things. If you have every read a scientific paper there are pages of technical explanations. What passes evidence at out level, Q&A sites, is just opinion or published arguments. People want evidence for God. Well first define God, you can't. You can point to Biblical passages but that's not God that's ancient scripture, very much open to interpretation. Then you can ask that truth be defined. The task is to broad and general. It is obvious that we have ancestors. It must be true that you and I had ancestors living in the 12th Century. Do you have any evidence; can you name one, tell me where the lived, what work they did. So you and I believe that generally without any evidence. Believing without evidence is normal. Demanding evidence and seeking evidence is rare and unusual.😇
