With some mental illnesses if predisposed, you first have to be triggered. There is a difference between mental illness and evil spirits. 1. Evil spirits or demons have an aversion to religion, or holy objects. 2. Evil spirits favour rationality over word salad. 3. They will have supernatural knowledge. 4. Occultic phenomina occurs. 5. Those who claim to be possessed probably aren't. 6. Prayer solves demonic possession or evil spirits.
