  • Here is the pronunciation according to the internet. No D sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb473jn2z9M However there are lots of words that are spelled far different than pronounced. Knife, knot, know knew, laugh, cough, or any word where "gh" is said as "f". Then there is might, night, right, where the gh is silent. We have "tomb and womb, then bomb". Gnome is another, rhymes with Rome. There are lots of examples in English, but I think French might be worse. 4/28/25

I got the information on the pronunciation of toxicity from Google but they may be wrong. I viewed the link you provided and that sounds better. It’s actually words with “ph” that have an “f” sound. Certain words with “gh” can be pronounced differently depending on the word such as “ghost” where the “h” is silent or “dough” in which the “gh” is silent. Your answer is interesting. The only word I can think of in which “gh” has an “f” sound is “rough”.

How about cough or laugh? Or the words that start with "ps" but the 'P" is silent, like psychiatrist of psychology. Ph, gh both sound like "F" in different words. Why didn't the original spellers simplify it by just using "F"?

      I know what you mean.
  • Note: you're pronouncing "toxicity" incorrectly. * Answering the question: just about anything French. Examples: rendezvous, plateau, bureau, cuisine, ballet, champagne, debris, faux.
    • Shadow Of The Mind
I realised I pronounced the word wrong after I watched the video in the link that the user dalcocono provided.
