Have you ever used one of them? It's a process. They can be dangerous if you or some helper gets something caught in the wringer. You have to wash the clothes as long as you need to, then fill the prerinse tub with clean water and take the stuff out of the washer, put it thru the wringer into the prerinse tub, then agitate the clothes in the tub with your hands for a couple minutes then the 2nd rinse tub should be filled with clean water awaiting the load of clean laundry from the prerinse tub. Put the laundry thru the wringer into the final rise tub, from the prerinse tub and agitate them a bit with your hands again, then put them thru the wringer into the laundry basket to either hang out to dry or go to the dryer. You can wash more than one load in the same water if not too heavily soiled. Same with the 2 rinse waters. When you're ready, drain the dirty wash water and replace it with the prerinse water and your soap and start again. An automatic washer is far better, IMHO.

I had a wringer washer that I was still using into mid 1980s. They require a couple of wash tubs to go along with them for pre-rinsing and final rinsing. They are far more hands on than the automatic washers we use today. Mine was a kenmore washer I think. 5/13/25
